#311 - Statements Riddle

I travelled to Japan and stopped near a store in order to use the restroom. But the problem was that I could not speak Japanese and thus I was not able to ask which one was for males and which one was for females. I find a person who can understand English but can only speak in Japanese.

I desperately needed to go to the restroom. What two questions did I asked so I could figure with restroom was meant for whom ?

Statements Riddle

The first question I asked was "Is this restroom for men?" while pointing at one of them. I just remembered the word he said. Then I asked "Am I a man?" Now I knew that the second response will mean yes only. Thus I could compare the second response with the first to find out if the restroom I pointed at was correct or not.

If he says the same word, then the restroom I pointed at must be for males only. If he said a different word, the restroom I pointed at will be wrong and for females.

#316 - Dimensions Maths Problem

There is a box. The area of its top is 240 square units, the area of the front is 300 square units and the area of the end is 180 square units.

Can you calculate the dimensions of this box with the given data?

P = 20 units
Q = 12 units
R = 15 units

Explaining
If you have started looking for a complex formula, we inform you that this requires just the simple algebra equations.

Let the three sides of the box be P, Q and R.

Now we know the area of rectangle is l* b.

P * Q = 240
P * R = 300
Q * R = 180

Let us multiply these three equations:
(P*Q) (P*R) (R*S) = 240 * 300 * 180
P^2 * Q ^2 * R^2 = 12960000
(P*Q*R)^2 = 12960000
P*Q*R = 3600

Now we know that P*Q = 240

Thus R = 3600/240 = 15.

Similarly putting and solving for other variables, we get
P = 20 units
Q = 12 units
R = 15 units

#320 - Hard Critical Thinking Puzzle

If two fifty foot ropes are suspended from a forty foot ceiling that is twenty feet apart, how much of rope will you be able to steal if you have a knife ?

Hard Critical Thinking Puzzle

You can steal almost whole of the rope. First you tie the ropes at the ends and then climb on one of them. Now you tie a loop in the rope closest possible to the ceiling. Then you hang from the loop and cut the rope just below it. Please make sure that you don’t drop that rope or you will be stuck. Now you run the rope through that loop and tie it to your waist. Now you swing towards the other rope and pull the rope going through the loop tightly. Now you cut the other rope as closely possible to the ceiling while you hold the other end tightly. The moment the rope is lose, you swing down below the loop. Now you drop down to the ground by letting the rope out. Then you untie yourself and pull the rope completely through the loop. Now you have the entire rope with you except the portion that was spent tying the loop.
